A New Look in the Chapel
Replacing the carpet in the Vietnam Veterans Peace and Brotherhood Chapel with more expensive but more practical tile has been something State Parks has wanted to do for quite some time. The David Westphall Veterans Foundation stepped in to assist with the funding for this project. Local veteran, Lonnie Snyder, of Blood Sweat and Tiles did the work and felt honored to do it. The entire project was completed just before the Labor Day crowds arrived.
The top level of the chapel is now tiled with gray non-slip tile that resembles flagstone. It's very nice looking and the color is better match than the previous tan was. Due to the curve involved, extra tile was ordered but the amount needed was overestimated. The next phase, which will use some of the leftover tile, will be to tile the steps going down to the lower level. These steps are very slippery when wet and this is a problem in the winter when visitors wear clunky boots.
